Pros who stay profitable long-term often sustain 2–5% ROI per bet. Bettors who track their real numbers catch leaks faster.
ROI per bet is (win rate × typical odds) − 1. At 52% win rate and 2.00 decimal odds, that's 0.52 × 2 − 1 = +4% per unit staked.
Typical odds is the decimal price you bet most often — roughly the median of your prices. It reflects your core game better than an average skewed by occasional longshots.
Break-even win rate is 1 ÷ typical odds. You need a higher win rate than that to profit. Many bettors overestimate their edge.
- Flat staking: same stake every bet. Profit = total staked × ROI per bet.
- Compound %: stake a fixed % of your current bankroll each bet. Grows faster but variance hits harder.
- Realistic range: ±1.96 standard deviations over all bets. Most real seasons land somewhere in that band, not on the exact projection.
